Using your Odoo Enterprise subscription on your own servers

Odoo Enterprise is not only for Odoo Online and Odoo.sh. With the right plan, you can run it on your own cloud server. Here is which plan you need, how to get the source, how to register the database and what to watch for.

Key takeaways

  • Self-hosting Odoo Enterprise needs Odoo's Custom plan. The Standard plan is for Odoo Online only (as of November 2026).
  • You install the Enterprise addons on top of Odoo Community, then register the database with your subscription code.
  • The server must be able to reach Odoo's servers, so the subscription can be checked and kept up to date.
  • Keep the number of active users within your subscription, or the database starts a 30-day countdown.

Which Odoo plan allows self-hosting

Odoo sells Enterprise per user, per month, under a few plans. As of November 2026, Odoo's pricing page lists these hosting options:

  • Standard: Odoo Online only, on Odoo's own cloud, without custom modules.
  • Custom: Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise. "On-premise" covers any server you run, including a VM in your own cloud account.

So if you want Enterprise on your own server, you need the Custom plan. Prices depend on your country and billing period, so check the current numbers on Odoo's site, or ask your Odoo partner for a quote. Keep in mind that the hosting is then up to you: the Odoo subscription does not include a server.

What the subscription gives you on your own server

An on-premise Enterprise subscription covers the software, not the hosting:

  • The Enterprise addons, such as Accounting, Studio, the Enterprise web client and the other Enterprise-only apps.
  • Support from Odoo for functional questions and bugs in Odoo's own code, under the terms of your contract.
  • Odoo's upgrade service, which converts your database to a newer Odoo version. You still run the upgraded database through testing yourself.

Everything around it is yours: the server, PostgreSQL, HTTPS, backups, monitoring and updates. That is the trade-off for full control, and the reason a staging copy and a good backup plan matter even more.

Getting the Enterprise source code

Odoo Enterprise is a set of extra modules that run on top of Odoo Community. The Enterprise modules are not public. There are two common ways to get them:

  • Odoo's download page, signed in with the Odoo account linked to your subscription.
  • The odoo/enterprise repository on GitHub, which Odoo gives Odoo partners access to. Partners usually deploy their clients' Enterprise databases from there.

Either way, the Enterprise version must match the Community version exactly: Odoo 19 Enterprise on Odoo 19 Community. Put the Enterprise directory first in the addons_path, so its modules take precedence, and update both sides together when you pull Odoo's fixes.

Registering your database

Enter the subscription code

A new Enterprise database shows a banner asking you to register it. According to Odoo's on-premise documentation, you enter your subscription code there. Once the code is accepted, the banner turns green and the expiration date appears at the bottom of the Settings page.

A few things to know, as of November 2026:

  • One database per subscription. A subscription is linked to one production database. Ask Odoo or your partner how test copies are handled under your contract.
  • The subscription must be active. If registration fails, check in your Odoo account that the subscription is in progress, not still waiting for payment.
  • The server must reach Odoo. Odoo's docs list services.odoo.com for Odoo 18 and later. Keep outbound access open after registration, because the database checks in regularly.

Users and the 30-day countdown

Odoo counts the active internal users in your database. If there are more than your subscription covers, a warning appears, and you have 30 days to fix it before the database expires. You can either archive users you no longer need, or add users to the subscription. Monthly plans adjust automatically; yearly plans need an upsell quote from Odoo or your partner.

Do not ignore the banner. When the countdown runs out, users see an expired-database message until the subscription is renewed or extended.

Moving to Enterprise from Community

You do not need a new database to move from Community to Enterprise. The usual steps are:

  1. Take a fresh backup of the Community database.
  2. Make a staging copy and add the Enterprise addons to its addons path.
  3. Install the Enterprise web client module (web_enterprise) and register the copy, then test your daily workflows.
  4. Repeat the same steps on production during a quiet moment.

Installing Enterprise modules changes the database, so going back to Community later is not a simple switch. Test the change on a copy first. Our guide to Odoo staging environments explains how to set one up.

Moving from Odoo Online or Odoo.sh

If you already pay for Enterprise on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh, you can usually take the same database to your own server. Download a backup with the filestore, restore it on the new server with the Enterprise addons for the same version, and register it. Check with Odoo or your partner first that your plan covers on-premise hosting, and whether anything about your subscription needs to change.

Running Enterprise well on your own server

  • Keep the source up to date. Pull Community and Enterprise updates together and test them on staging.
  • Back up the database and filestore daily, with a copy off the server.
  • Plan upgrades early. Request a test upgrade from Odoo's upgrade service well before you need it, and test the result on staging.
  • Watch user counts when people join or leave, so you never hit the countdown by surprise.

How CloudPilot handles Odoo Enterprise

CloudPilot runs both Odoo Community and Odoo Enterprise, version 18, 19 and 20, on your own cloud account or server:

  • Your subscription code is stored encrypted in Settings → Enterprise Edition and registered in each database you switch to Enterprise.
  • The Enterprise source comes from the odoo/enterprise repository, using a GitHub account you connect that has access to it. CloudPilot downloads the right version to a server the first time an instance there is switched to Enterprise, and puts it first in the addons path.
  • Switch an instance to Enterprise from its settings, after testing the switch on a staging copy.
  • Backups, staging, Git deploys, domains with SSL and monitoring work the same for both editions.

Running Enterprise on your own servers is part of the Pro and Business plans. See Odoo Enterprise hosting for an overview, Switch an instance to Odoo Enterprise for the steps, and pricing for each plan. The Odoo subscription itself is bought from Odoo S.A. or your Odoo partner.

Odoo Enterprise on your own servers: questions

Can I host Odoo Enterprise on my own server?

Yes, with Odoo's Custom plan, which allows Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting. The Standard plan is limited to Odoo Online (as of November 2026).

How do I register a self-hosted Odoo Enterprise database?

Enter your subscription code in the registration banner of the database. The server must be able to reach Odoo's servers, and the subscription must be active in your Odoo account.

What happens if I have more users than my subscription?

Odoo shows a warning and gives you 30 days to archive users or add them to your subscription. If the countdown runs out, the database shows an expired message until the subscription is renewed.
